College essay and writing coach
I help students create compelling, detail-rich, memorable essays for college, graduate school, and professional school applications.
I work with students one-on-one to complete the Common App personal statement and supplementary essays for all their college applications. We start with idea generation and work through as many revisions as it takes to make sure each essay tells the student's unique story.
Some students are able to complete all their essays on their own, but it's always good to have an extra set of eyes to make sure every sentence is polished and meaningful. Every writer benefits from a good editor! This service is billed hourly, with the total time dependent on the number of applications and essays.
Many colleges offer applicants the opportunity to interview with admissions staff or local alumni. We practice interview strategies using real questions from our decades of college interviewing to prepare students for in-person and online interviews, building their confidence and setting them up for success.
I help students with essays for scholarships, honors colleges, and special programs as part of the college essay coaching process. My students have earned special recognition, honors college placement, and significant financial merit awards at leading universities around the U.S.
Graduate programs and professional schools (law school, medical school, etc.) require students to write the same kinds of personal narrative essays as college applications. I support students of all ages as they complete these essays, focusing on fundamental writing skills and capturing career aspirations.
Writing should be fun! Designed for middle and high school students, these one-on-one online creative writing workshops build writing confidence and develop the skills needed for their future college essays. We work on capturing detail, personal narrative and clear, concise storytelling.
Essays are one of the most important components of college applications, especially at competitive schools. Most students benefit from guidance as they complete their college applications. College counselors, especially those at large high schools, often don't have time to give more than superficial input on college essays. Working with a college essay coach can make the college application process less stressful for students and families.
Sooner is always better, as I only take a limited number of students each season. Many rising seniors begin working on applications over the summer before school starts. Senior year is a busy time, so the more quickly we can get the essays started, the sooner those applications will be done!
College admissions are highly competitive, so no—there are no guarantees. My job is to make sure students make the best impression they can on admissions committees by telling a unique, compelling story about their own lived experience.
Absolutely not. That doesn’t help anyone! Admissions committees can tell, and they don’t like it. My process centers around helping kids identify significant moments in their lived experience and turn those moments into compelling, detail-rich stories that are memorable and meaningful. They're doing the writing and revising, with input and guidance from me. At the end of our work, students are better writers, something that will help them forever.
Not at all. I'm based in southern California, but thanks to technology, I work with students throughout the U.S. and internationally. We meet over Zoom or Google Meet and use Google Docs for collaborative brainstorming and editing.
